I'm dreaming of a Black Christmas,
just like the one I've never known.
Where the trees have leaves and the kids play with things..
Their parents bought from Black-Owned Businesses.

Today is Cyber-Monday, 2022. We all know what that means. The online shopping holiday that immediately follows Black, Black Friday is here. All around the world, online retailers, large and small, near and far; will compete for the trillion-dollar purchasing power that is the Black dollar.

Purchasing power is the amount of money or credit we have available to spend on goods and services. The term is often confused with consumer spend. Which refers to the amount of money we actually spend on said goods and services. And according to researchers at Renolon.com African-American purchasing power is estimated at $16.1 trillion, as of 2021.

As consumers, we remain a necessary and important part of the nation’s economy. We both; set the trends and buy the products. Our presence in the market economy is one that Big Brand retailers dream of. Especially on Cyber-Monday.

But, 'tis the season of recognizing our Black purchasing power and learning how to effectively utilize our consumer spend. A flourishing Black business creates generational wealth for Black families, as well as jobs for other Black people. Choosing to purchase from a Black-owned business, as opposed to white retailers, puts Big Brands on notice that they will be held accountable for lack of diversity and anti-Black business practices.

Supporting Black-owned businesses supports the Black community as a whole.
