HealthCare.Gov: Deadline to Get Health Insurance is December 15th
By Melisha Daniels - December 13, 2022The December 15th deadline to apply for health insurance thru the Healthcare Marketplace is quickly approaching.
To be eligible for health insurance for 2023, you and/or (your fhousehold) must be;
- A U.S. Citizen or U.S National residing in the U.S.
- Not be incarcerated
- Income of less than or up to the 2023 ObamaCare Income Eligibility Requirements
The ability to access proper healthcare has been an ongoing issue for people of color in the U.S. According to a 2020 study reported on KKF.org, Black Americans fared worse than their white counterparts in a majority of the 32 health-related measures, examined. Researchers found Blacks reported poorer overall health, as well as, higher rates of chronic disease and pregnancy-related deaths than whites. Making the ability to attain quality healthcare imperative to the longevity of the Black population.

Affordable health insurance was made attainable via the Affordable Care Act of 2010. The healthcare reform initiative, affectionately known as 'ObamaCare', was implemented during President Obama's first term in office. The law provided low-cost or subsidized insurance premiums to people (even those with pre-existing conditions) who could not get insurance through their employer and did not receive Medicare or Medicaid.
Healthcare insurance benefits were expanded by the recently implemented American Rescue Plan of 2021 put in place by current U.S. President Joe Biden. The expanded healthcare reform act increased income elibility limits and put limits on the health insurance premiums. Meaning those eligible for insurance thru the Marketplace won't pay more than 8% of the income. And people that have received unemployment for at least 1 week during the previous year can get a plan and won't have to pay a premium.
